SEPTEMBER 2010: Trombone Shorty Featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live (9/23), The Tonight Show (9/30) and Austin City Limits (10/23)

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue was featured performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live September 23rd. The next week, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews will be a special guest with Ricky Minor and The Tonight Show band September 30th. On October 23rd, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be featured on PBS's Austin City Limits. Ivan Neville is also featured sitting in with the band for this taping. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue was also recently chosen to support Dave Matthews Band in November for their final four shows before their upcoming hiatus. Troy, along with The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Kermit Ruffins, joined DMB during the NFL Opening Kickoff 2010 pre-game concert, broadcast live on NBC. NBC also aired a segment with Troy playing in the French Quarter with Grandpa (Playing for Change) Elliot during the broadcast of the game as a commercial wraparound. BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet Featured On BBC's God's Jukebox Radio Show

BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were recently featured performing on the BBC Saturday night radio show, God's Jukebox, hosted by Mark Lamarr.  The session was taped while the band was in London playing at Richard Thompson's Meltdown Festival.  Four songs were broadcast, including two from their most recent GRAMMY nominated CD Alligator Purse: "Reel Cajun (451 North St. Joseph St.)" and "Theogene Creole."  A fifth bonus track from the session, "Bamako" can be heard here for a limited time.

The Weepies' Be My Thrill Debuts In Billboard Top 40, Top 10 Digital Albums, #3 on Folk Chart

The Weepies' new album, Be My Thrill (Nettwerk), debuted at #34 in the Billboard Top 40, #8 on the Top Digital Albums Chart and #3 on the Folk Chart. It also debuted on the iTunes Top 5 Overall Albums the day of its release, staying in the Top 10 it's first week. Huffington Post called the album "...perfectly crafted pop music. Be My Thrill is impossibly infectious." The album was recently picked as Whole Foods' Recommended Release, earning a nationwide album promotion plus full album stream and interview posted on the Whole Foods Market blog.

Trombone Shorty, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Allen Toussaint Featured in NFL Season Kickoff Festivities

Trombone Shorty, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Allen Toussaint were all featured in NFL Season Kickoff festivities in New Orleans. Trombone Shorty and The Dirty Dozen joined Dave Matthews Band during the NFL Opening Kickoff 2010 pre-game concert, broadcast live on NBC. Shorty, The Dozen and Kermit Ruffins collaborated with DMB on the Talking Heads' classic "Burning Down the House" while the Mardi Gras Indians danced on stage. Taylor Swift also performed at the show.

The night before, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue performed at the NFL Kickoff Eve celebration at the New Orleans House of Blues. Following their set, Robert Randolph and the Family Band played, joined onstage by Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty.

Trombone Shorty was also featured with iconic street-musician Grandpa (Playing For Change) Elliott in a commercial wraparound broadcast during the NFL Kickoff game between The Saints and The Vikings.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue To Support Dave Matthews Band on Tour Finale Before DMB Hiatus

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be supporting Dave Matthews Band for their final four shows before their year-long hiatus. The run ends with two shows in Charlottesville, VA, the town where DMB was formed. VIP ticket proceeds from these last two shows will benefit two local non-profits: Local Food Hub and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge. Bettye LaVette Honored with Heroes And Legends Achievement in Music Award

Bettye LaVette will be honored with the Heroes And Legends (HAL) Achievement in Music Award in a ceremony September 26, 2010 in Beverly Hills, CA. The award celebrates Bettye's contributions to the history of music and the creative landscape. The HAL Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to talented, underprivileged students in the performing arts and spotlights positive role models in the fields of music, theatre, motion pictures and business through their awards program.

Allen Toussaint To Support Neil Young Solo Dates

Allen Toussaint will be supporting Neil Young on six of his solo tour dates in late September. Allen will also be performing solo. Four of the shows are Gulf Coast benefits (September 20, 25, 26, 28) for which Neil has teamed up with Tyson Foods to fight hunger in Gulf Coast communities affected by the oil spill. Tyson will donate 100,000 pounds of chicken and Neil is asking concertgoers to bring non-perishable food items to the gigs. All donations will be given to the Bay Area Food Bank, which serves communities in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi. In addition, all proceeds from limited-edition Neil Young shirts, available only at the Gulf concerts, will go to help the relief effort. Trombone Shorty, Irma Thomas & Allen Toussaint Featured on HBO's Treme Soundtrack (Out 9/28 Digitally)

Trombone Shorty, Irma Thomas & Allen Toussaint are featured on Treme: Music From The HBO Original Series, Season 1 which will be released digitally September 28 (a physical CD is expected in the Fall - details TBA).  All three artists were featured on the series playing themselves.  Trombone Shorty and his brother James Andrews perform "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" - a song first recorded by their grandfather Jesse Hill in 1960.  Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint collaborate on "Time Is On My Side."  Irma's 1964 version of the song went on to be covered by The Rolling Stones later that year.  Catch Shorty, Irma and Allen live on stage, please see Tour Dates >>


 
 
Carrie Rodriguez Featured on New Los Lonely Boys Album, Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez Collection and more

Carrie Rodriguez is a featured guest on two songs on the forthcoming Los Lonely Boys album, Keep On Giving: Acoustic Live! (out September 28th). The tracks, "Heaven" and "Beast of Burden," also feature Alejandro Escovedo. Carrie, Alejandro and Los Lonely Boys toured together earlier this year, with Carrie playing her own set before playing as a member of Alejandro's band each night. Carrie is the subject of a radio special hosted by Alejandro, Live & Circumstance, that will be airing on over 131 stations - watch for more details coming soon.

Chip Taylor & Carrie Rodriguez - The New Bye & Bye, The Best of the Trainwreck Years (2002-2007), will be released on Oct 12th. The album features four new songs and highlights from their past collaborations. On top of that, Carrie has also teamed up with Ben Kyle of Romantica on a duet EP, When We Loved Our Country. It will be available exclusively during her UK and Holland tour with Romantica, September 17 - October 11, 2010.

Mavis Staples Coming Up On The Tonight Show, Letterman and The Colbert Report - Lollapalooza Raves

Mavis Staples will be featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on September 7, The Late Show with David Letterman on October 5, and The Colbert Report on October 6. Joining her for Letterman and The Colbert Report performances will be Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, who produced Mavis' new album You Are Not Alone. The new CD (out September 14) has already garnered universal acclaim and, according to Mojo magazine, is "a definite contender for 2010 album of the year."  Mavis also made a significant impact with her Lollapalooza set on August 6. Rolling Stone raved that "Mavis Staples lit a fire under the sleepy crowd". The set included several songs from her new album and, for the title track,  Mavis was joined onstage by Jeff Tweedy on acoustic guitar. According to Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune, "It was supposed to be Lady Gaga's night...But Gaga hasn't got anything on Mavis Staples, who threw down in her set with an urgency and passion." Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars Featured On New Bob Marley Tribute Album

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars version of  "No Woman, No Cry" is featured on the new Putumayo compilation, Tribute to a Reggae Legend.  The album, created in celebration of Bob Marley's would-be 65th birthday, showcases exceptional artists from around the world performing many of Marley's best-loved songs.  "We are so proud ," say the All Stars of their contribution to the album, "Brother Bob will always be our number one musical inspiration!"
