DECEMBER 2011: Marcia Ball and Jim Lauderdale Both Nominated for 2012 GRAMMY Awards - Trombone Shorty and Dirty Dozen Brass Band Members Featured on Nominated Albums

Marcia Ball and Jim Lauderdale have both been honored with 2012 GRAMMY Award Nominations. Marcia's Roadside Attractions is up for Best Blues Album, her fifth GRAMMY nomination overall and a very impressive fourth CD in a row of hers to be nominated. Jim's Reason And Rhyme is nominated for Best Bluegrass Album. This is Jim's sixth GRAMMY nomination overall including GRAMMY wins in 2008 and 2002.

Both Trombone Shorty and Dirty Dozen Brass Band members Gregory Davis and Roger Lewis are featured on 2012 GRAMMY nominated albums. Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews is a featured performer on Jeff Beck's Rock 'N' Roll Party Honoring Les Paul (nominated for Best Rock Album). Troy also wrote the song "AP Touro" for the Rebirth Brass Band's album Rebirth Of New Orleans, nominated for Best Regional Roots Music Album. Jeff Beck and Rebirth are featured guests on Trombone Shorty's latest album, For True, along with 2012 GRAMMY nominees Warren Haynes and Ledisi. The Dirty Dozen's Gregory Davis (Trumpet) and Roger Lewis (Saxophone) are featured on the track "Ya Messinagh" from Tinariwen's album Tassili, which is nominated for Best World Music Album.

OCTOBER 2011: Jim Lauderdale Hosts Americana Music Awards, Appears on NPR's Mountain Stage Airing October 21

Jim Lauderdale was once again honored to host the Americana Music Association's awards program - his ninth time hosting the event in its 10 years of existence. The event was held before a sold-out crowd at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on October 13. Leading the house band for the evening was Instrumentalist and Artist of the Year Award winner Buddy Miller. Lauderdale's latest release, Reason & Rhyme (June 2011) is Jim's third project with legendary Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, a collaboration they began over 10 years ago. In addition to a live awards broadcast that featured performances by Lucinda Williams, Jerry Douglas and Gregg Allman, Robert Plant, The Civil Wars, Justin Townes Earle, and Hayes Carll, an edited version of the show will be aired Nov. 19 as a special episode of the new season of acclaimed PBS series Austin City Limits.

Jim is also appearing on NPR's Mountain Stage, airing the week after October 21. Joining Jim on this broadcast are Vince Gill, David Mayfield Parade, Red Molly and John Lilly. Mountain Stage blends studio quality with live performance before a theater audience. MAY 2011: Jim Lauderdale Releases New Album, Reason & Rhyme June 21st

Jim Lauderdale has collaborated yet again with legendary Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter and will release his new CD, Reason & Rhyme, on Sugar Hill Records, June 21, 2011. Described by Jim as "back to total bluegrass," the album includes 11 new tracks and features musicians from previous recordings such as Jay Weaver on bass and Scott Vestal on banjo. Also returning is producer Randy Kohrs of Lauderdale's 2007 Grammy-winning CD, The Bluegrass Diaries.  "We started on this one last August," says Lauderdale, "right after I finished touring with Elvis Costello...This time around, we wanted to keep the momentum from Patchwork River going; I started sending him [Robert Hunter] melodies, and ten days later we had 18 songs to choose from." This is Jim's third project with Hunter since they began collaborating over 10 years ago.

Jim Lauderdale has been widely acknowledged for his songwriting and is soon to be inducted into The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in the Songwriter category, on June 11, 2011. His songs have been recorded by artists such as Patty Loveless, George Jones, The Dixie Chicks, Solomon Burke, Mark Chesnutt, Dave Edmunds, John Mayall, Kathy Mattea, Lee Ann Womack, Gary Allan, Vince Gill, George Strait, Buddy Miller, The Del McCoury Band, Dwight Yoakam and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band among many others. MARCH 2011: Jim Lauderdale To Be Inducted Into The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame on June 11th

Jim Lauderdale will be inducted into The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in the Songwriter category on June 11th, 2011. As a Songwriter, Jim has written and recorded material for 18 albums; he won a GRAMMY for his album, The Bluegrass Diaries, and has received two additional GRAMMY nominations as well. Two of his albums are collaborations with Ralph Stanley, one of which was a GRAMMY Winner, the other a GRAMMY Nominee.

Jim co-wrote the song "I Lost You" with Elvis Costello for Elvis' latest album National Ransom, on which Jim is a featured performer. This followed Jim's role as a performing member of Elvis' Sugarcanes band as they toured in support of Elvis' GRAMMY Nominated Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, an album on which Jim was also featured in the band.

Jim's songs have been recorded by artists including Patty Loveless, George Jones, The Dixie Chicks, Solomon Burke, Mark Chesnutt, Dave Edmunds, John Mayall, Kathy Mattea, Lee Ann Womack, Gary Allan, Blake Shelton, Vince Gill, George Strait, Buddy Miller, The Del McCoury Band, Dwight Yoakam and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band among many others.

The Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame honors those involved with music of any kind who were either born or active within the greater Blue Ridge Mountains area running from north Georgia to northern Virginia or who contributed to the music associated with traditions of the Blue Ridge, such as ballads, old-time, bluegrass and gospel. The Hall of Fame honors commercial recording artists, pioneers, revivalists, songwriters, those who have contributed as side musicians, traditional dancers and callers, scholars, promoters, journalists, educators, and broadcast personalities. Past Inductees include Ralph and Carter Stanley, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, The Carter Family and Dolly Parton among others. This year Emmylou Harris will be among those inducted with Jim. JANUARY 2011: Rosebud Artists Recognized In Village Voice 2010 Pazz & Jop Poll

Eleven albums and six singles released by Rosebud artists last year are recognized in the 2010 Village Voice Pazz & Jop Music Critics Poll, which calculated 712 critics' votes for the most important music of the year.

In addition, Captain Beefheart's "Big Eyed Beans From Venus" reissue was recognized in the year's top singles list. The late Captain Beefheart was a Rosebud artist until his retirement in 1981.


NOVEMBER 2010: Jim Lauderdale Honored with Inspiration Award and Two Other Awards at SESAC 2010 Music Awards

Jim Lauderdale was honored with the Inspiration Award at the SESAC 2010 Nashville Music Awards on November 8th. The award recognizes "his timeless and genre-defying music which has resulted in collaborations with a diverse group of artists including Elvis Costello, Ralph Stanley and Willie Nelson among many others" according to SESAC, the performing rights organization founded in 1930. Elvis Costello and Ralph Stanley both sent video congratulations to Jim, who was there to accept the prestigious award, and Buddy Miller performed Jim's "The King Of Broken Hearts" in tribute. In addition, Jim was honored with songwriting awards for his Patchwork River album (Americana Performance Activity Award), and two Country Performance Activity Awards for songs he wrote for George Strait: "I Gotta Get To You" (written w/ Blaine Larsen) and "Twang". Congratulations Jim!

OCTOBER 2010: Jim Lauderdale Cover Story in The Direct Buzz, Featured on New Elvis Costello CD and Letterman Performance, Upcoming Gwyneth Paltrow Film and CMA Performance

Jim Lauderdale is featured on the cover of The Direct Buzz's October issue. Among other topics, Jim discusses his next album (release details TBA) which is a bluegrass project and his second album collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. Read the interview here.

In other news, Jim is featured on the new Elvis Costello CD, National Ransom (out November 2), for which he co-wrote the song "I Lost You" with Elvis. He will join Elvis in performance on The Late Show with David Letterman on November 1. In addition, Jim is featured in the upcoming film, Country Strong, (opening December 22) starring Gwyneth Paltrow. Jim plays the rhythm guitarist and harmony singer in Gwyneth's band. In a real life performance, Jim will be the band leader and rhythm guitarist with Gwyneth Paltrow at the County Music Awards on November 10. The Awards will be broadcast on ABC.

AUGUST 2010: Television Encores for Bettye LaVette, Jim Lauderdale With Elvis Costello, Trombone Shorty and Carrie Rodriguez

Bettye LaVette, Jim Lauderdale with Elvis Costello, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue and Carrie Rodriguez have all been called back for encores of their recent network TV appearances.

Bettye's May 24th performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno just re-aired on August 9th. Jim Lauderdale's performance as a member of Elvis Costello's Sugarcanes band on Austin City Limits replays on August 14th. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue's June 22nd performance on The Late Show with David Letterman will be re-broadcast on August 20th. MAY 2010: Jim Lauderdale Performing With Willie Nelson on Letterman May 5 and on The View May 6

Jim Lauderdale will be performing with Willie Nelson on the Late Show with David Letterman May 5 and on The View May 6, 2010. Please check your local listings for air times. Jim is a member of Willie Nelson's band on his recently released CD, Country Music (Rounder Records), which was produced by T Bone Burnett.

Jim's own new CD, Patchwork River, will be released on May 11, 2010. The CD is his second collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter ("Dark Star," "Friend of the Devil," "Terrapin Station," "Truckin"). For this album, Jim brought together an all-star cast. Helping with production were long-time production partner Tim Coates and Doug Lancio, who also played guitar. Additionally, James Burton, Al Perkins, Ron Tutt, Garry Tallent, Kenny Vaughan and Patty Griffin contributed their musical talents to the album.

Jim just finished a tour with Elvis Costello's Sugarcanes band (with whom he played on the GRAMMY nominated Secret, Profane & Sugarcane CD) and he will be touring on his own throughout the Spring, including hosting the Tennessee Shines stage at Bonnaroo, please see Tour Dates >>


 
 
MARCH 2010: Jim Lauderdale To Release Patchwork River May 11, 2010; Also Featured On New Willie Nelson CD & PBS's Soundstage With Willie

Jim Lauderdale will release his new CD, Patchwork River, on May 11, 2010. The CD is his second collaboration with Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter ("Dark Star," "Friend of the Devil," "Terrapin Station" and "Truckin") Robert says of Jim: "This man has what it takes. If you don't like country with a humble jolt of human soul, leave him alone." For this album, Jim brought together an all-star cast. Helping with production were long-time production partner Tim Coates and Doug Lancio, who also played guitar. Additionally, James Burton, Al Perkins, Ron Tutt, Garry Tallent, Kenny Vaughan and Patty Griffin contributed their musical talents to the album.

 

Jim also just finished work as a member of Willie Nelson's band on his new CD, Country Music (Rounder 4/20/10), which was produced by T Bone Burnett. Jim appeared with Willie on the PBS's Soundstage in an episode that premiered February 25, 2010. Mixing up elements of folk, blues, classic country, western swing and a little bit of gospel, Willie and an 8-piece band (including Jim) gathered around the stage to highlight Willie's new album. JANUARY 2010: Grammys for Booker T. and Loudon Wainwright III, Performances by Jim Lauderdale and Trombone Shorty plus Booker T. for Neil Young Musicares Tribute

Congrats to GRAMMY Winners, Booker T. (for Potato Hole - Best Pop Instrumental Album) and Loudon Wainwright III (for High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project - Best Traditional Folk Album). And to Mavis Staples for her duet with Patty Griffin on Oh Happy Day (Winner - Best Traditional Gospel Album) and Trombone Shorty for his appearance on Buckwheat Zydeco's GRAMMY winner (Lay Your Burden Down - Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album).

Jim Lauderdale performed during the pre-telecast awards in an all star bluegrass band while Trombone Shorty played to the full GRAMMY audience as part of a New Orleans tribute just before the broadcast.

Friday night before the awards, to celebrate Neil Young as MusiCares Person of the Year and with proceeds going to musicians in need, Booker T. joined Keith Urban and John Fogerty for a rousing rendition of "Rockin' in the Free World". (read more at rollingstone.com)

DECEMBER 2009: 10 Grammy Nominations for Rosebud Artists!

We're thrilled to announce that Rosebud Artists received 10 Grammy nominations for this year's awards taking place on January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles. Artists honored with nominations include Allen Toussaint for The Bright Mississippi (Best Jazz Instrumental Album); Booker T. for both Potato Hole (Best Pop Instrumental Album) and a track from that album, "Warped Sister" (Best Rock Instrumental Performance); Jim Lauderdale for Could We Get Any Closer? (Best Bluegrass Album); John Hammond's Rough & Tough and Duke Robillard's Stomp! The Blues Tonight are both nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album; Ruthie Foster's The Truth According To Ruthie Foster and Mavis Staples' Live: Hope At The Hideout are both nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album; Loudon Wainwright III for High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project (Best Traditional Folk Album); Beausoleil Avec Michael Doucet for Alligator Purse (Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album).

Other CDs honored with nominations include the collection Oh Happy Day, nominated for Best Traditional Gospel Album which features a song by Mavis Staples with Patty Griffin. True Blood, nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album, features a song by Allen Toussaint. Buckwheat Zydeco's Lay Your Burden Down features a guest appearance by Rosebud artist, Trombone Shorty. Ann Savoy of The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band is also a member of The Magnolia Sisters whose Stripped Down CD was nominated. And Elvis Costello's Secret, Profane & Sugarcane features Rosebud artist, Jim Lauderdale. Jim also co-wrote the title track to George Strait's Twang.

In other Grammy related news, Grammy nominated CDs, Cadillac Records - Music From the Motion Picture and Little Walter - The Complete Chess Masters also include songs written and made famous respectively by former Rosebud artists, the late Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters.

Rosebud has been fortunate in that generally our artists score between 4 and 6 Grammy nominations every year but 10 is definitely a new record and we are Thrilled, especially considering the fact that Rosebud artists only released 14 eligible CDs this past year. Congratulations to all the nominees!

Jim is also currently in the studio working with Willie Nelson on his upcoming CD which is being produced by T Bone Burnett. AUGUST 2009: Jim Lauderdale's Could We Get Any Closer? In Stores Now

Jim Lauderdale's new CD, Could We Get Any Closer? Is now in stores. The disc is produced by Randy Kohrs, who produced Jim's Grammy-winning The Bluegrass Diaries album, and finds Jim collaborating with some of Nashville's best musicians. Jim wrote six of the new songs and co-wrote the others with songwriters Robert Hunter, Shawn Camp, Odie Blackmon, and Candace Randolph. Jim is currently on the road as a member of Elvis Costello's Sugarcanes band and he is featured on Elvis' latest CD, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane. See Jim performing both with Elvis and on his own.


MAY 2009: Jim Lauderdale Featured On New Elvis Costello Disc & Appearing With Elvis On Letterman And Conan

Two-time Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale is featured on Elvis Costello's new disc, Secret, Profane & Sugarcane, to be released June 2, 2009. Elvis writes, "I've admired Jim Lauderdale's recordings for a good while... Jim is singing close vocal harmony on every song [on] this record. He's mastered that art of singing the second line without ever pulling attention from the narrator of the tale... It's transparent and essential at the same time... As fine a singer and songwriter as he is on his own recordings, I can't say enough about the tone and timbre that he adds to mine on every line he hits." Jim will become a member of Elvis Costello & The Sugarcanes for their June tour dates including appearances June 4 on the Late Show with David Letterman and June 23 on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. In September, Jim hosts the 2009 Americana Honors & Awards for the 7th time in the 8-year history of the awards, which take place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
