JUNE 2012: Jon Cleary and Dr. John Join Forces for Summer Tour of the US and Europe

Jon Cleary joined Dr. John and The Lower 911 on June 1 to begin an extensive tour that will last through July. In addition to performing as part of Dr. John's Lower 911 band, Cleary will also be performing solo as the support artist on select shows. The tour, billed as Dr. John and The Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary, will hit a limited number of markets across the US before crossing to Europe at the end of June. The tour hits 10 countries overall with appearances at a number of prestigious festivals including Montreux Jazz, Roskilde and Nice Jazz Festival as well as a number of headlining concerts.

This collaboration comes hot on the heels of Jon Cleary's critically praised new album, Occapella, released April 17. Occapella, is a collection of carefully selected, creatively re-structured songs written by the legendary Allen Toussaint. The track "Let's Get Low Down" features Bonnie Raitt (who Cleary toured with for a number of years) and Dr. John on guest vocals, with Dr. John also playing guitar on the track. Bonnie was recently quoted in the LA Times praising Jon as "the world's best-kept secret".

Dr. John's latest album Locked Down, released April 3, has won rave reviews worldwide. And from a commercial standpoint the CD has brought the legendary Doctor his greatest sales and highest chart positions in decades. Locked Down benefitted greatly from production by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys who proclaimed Dr. John "…one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be…I'm so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him."

MARCH 2012: Jon Cleary's New Album Occapella Out April 17

Jon Cleary's brilliant new CD, Occapella, is slated for release on April 17 through his own label FHQ Records. For this project, Cleary notes that he is "having fun with the songs of Allen Toussaint." He has chosen a mix of popular and less familiar pieces penned by legendary songwriter Allen Toussaint to re-imagine, like the lesser-known title track as well as better known tunes like "Southern Nights," "Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky," and "Fortune Teller," most recently made popular by Robert Plant/Alison Krauss.

Cleary explains the concept of the album: "The challenge was to take each song and do a flip on it in some respect... to take them in a different direction - to take an aspect of the melody or the chord progression, or perhaps his original arrangement, and present it in a different box, as it were." The result is a major success with creative and refreshing new takes on the great songs of a master truly deserving of this loving spotlight on his work. Cleary plays every instrument on the album (keyboards, guitar, bass and drums) with the exception of "Let's Get Low Down," where Dr. John plays guitar while bassist James Singleton and drummer Terence Higgins, both part of the flexible lineup of the Philthy Phew (Jon's current touring group), lay down the groove. Bonnie Raitt (Jon's former band leader of ten years) and Dr. John also join him on the song's vocals.

For his upcoming performances, Cleary, a three-time Blues Music Award Nominee for Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year, will perform solo on piano or with the Philthy Phew. He commands stages of all sizes from intimate venues to large festivals across the world. Jon is currently touring North America with dates in New York City, Vancouver, Seattle and Los Angeles among others, as well as extensive shows in New Orleans both at and around JazzFest. MAY 2009: Rosebud Artists Everywhere At New Orleans Jazz Fest

Rosebud Artists could be found performing in a wide variety of formats during the 40th Annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (April 24 - May 3).

In various formats was Jon Cleary, performing with his long-standing bandleader, Bonnie Raitt, on the Main Stage before racing over to play a set with his current bandleader, John Scofield, at the Blues Tent and then being joined by both Bonnie Raitt and John Scofield at his own House of Blues show later the same night. Cleary returned to the Fairgrounds for his own band's set on the closing day of the festival.
