"Charlie cut into that little bebop bit at the end of this tune, which I thought was really brilliant," says Keltner. "The piece begins with my sequence and then Charlie and I playing a lot of crazy stuff together. There's some percussion overdubs on my part and then they break into the jazz thing. And that was from Charlie's original jazz beat from our session together. He broke into that ride beat and just stayed on it. That's what he's known for. The essence of Charlie's playing is as a jazz player even when he's playing rock, in that he starts a thing and he commits like jazz players do. So he just plays that good ride beat here and that's beautiful. To hear him playing jazz...that little bebop beat on that flat top cymbal of his...that was nice."
