Booker T. Jones performed in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Youngs band for their recently completed Tour of America. Joining Booker in the band was fellow MGs bandmate, Donald Duck Dunn. Booker and Duck also recorded with Neil Young on his newly released CD, Are You Passionate? and are currently on tour with Neil in Europe.
The rest of the album has a relaxed, soulful kind of groove, from the direct Stax rhythm lifts of "You're My Girl," "Differently," and "Be With You" to the subtle textures of "She's a Healer," "Mr. Disappointment," and "Two Old Friends." Even "Let's Roll," Young's highly publicized paean to the heroic September 11 passengers on Flight 93, has a kind of chug that's made funkier by this particular rhythm section than it probably would have been in the hands of other players. |
