Rosebud Artists could be found performing in a wide variety of formats during the 40th Annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (April 24 - May 3)

..The Dirty Dozen Brass Band horn section started the festival off by joining Spoon during their headline set. Later the same night, The Dozen welcomed Booker T. as a special guest for their show at The Republic. The Dozen's own festival set featured an all star lineup of artists for the Glass House Reunion (the Dozen's early home base in NOLA) including former members of The Dozen as well as Trombone Shorty and others. Trombone Shorty, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and BeauSoleil are all being recognized for their achievements at the 2009 Big Easy Music Awards in New Orleans on April 19, 2009. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band's influential history is being acknowledged by awarding them the Music Heritage Award. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are nominated for Best Funk Band and Trombone Shorty himself is nominated for Best Male Performer, a category he won last year. Trombone Shorty also makes a guest appearance on Best Album of 2008 finalist - City That Care Forgot by Dr. John & the Lower 911. Grammy Congratulations to Allen Toussaint who was awarded the Grammy Trustees Award, performed on the live TV broadcast and was the featured public interviewee Thursday for the Grammys Legends series! Allen's song "Fortune Teller" is also featured on the Robert Plant / Allison Krauss Raising Sand CD - the big winner at the Grammys this year. The Blind Boys of Alabama were honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award and also won their 5th Grammy for their Down In New Orleans CD. BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet were also Grammy winners for their Live CD from the 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band joined Allen Toussaint and Lil Wayne on the Grammy telecast. Also nominated for Grammys were Marcia Ball, Bill Frisell and Michael Doucet for his solo CD. Trombone Shorty was featured on Dr. John's Grammy winning City That Care Forgot and James Burton, who performs in Jim Lauderdale's Dream Payers band, shared the Grammy for Best Country Instrumental for Cluster Pluck. Rosebud Artists Honored With New Orleans Best of The Beat Nominations

Rosebud Artists are once again figuring prominently among those honored with nominations for Best of The Beat Awards presented by OffBeat magazine, recognizing the best of New Orleans music. Nominees are selected by the editors and writers of OffBeat and the public has the opportunity to vote for the winners. Vote here as the polls close January 22. The awards take place January 31 at the House of Blues in New Orleans.

Rosebud Artists nominated are Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue for Best R&B / Funk Band or Performer - a category they won last year. Trombone Shorty himself is nominated for his third Artist / Band of the Year award and for Best Trumpet player. Also nominated for Best R&B / Funk Band are Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, who have recently joined the Rosebud roster. Jon Cleary is also nominated for Best Piano / Keyboards player. Dr. John's City That Care Forgot, which features a guest performance by Trombone Shorty, is nominated for both Album of the Year and Best R&B / Funk Album. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band have been nominated for Best Brass Band, a category they have won a number of times in the past. Best Cajun Band or Performer nominees include 12-time winners BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet. Michael Doucet's solo CD, From Now On, is nominated for Best Cajun Album and Michael is also nominated for a Violin / Fiddle award.

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Allen Toussaint And Trombone Shorty Featured in NBA All-Star Festivities

Allen Toussaint and Trombone Shorty will be featured participants in the nationally televised NBA All-Star game on TNT Sunday, February 17th. Trombone Shorty will perform during the player introductions along with Branford Marsalis, Kermit Ruffins and Rebirth Brass Band. Allen Toussaint will perform at half time as part of an all star lineup of keyboardists also featuring Harry Connick, Jr. and his band with Dr. John, Davell Crawford, Art Neville, Ivan Neville, Jonathan Batiste and Ellis Marsalis. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will perform throughout the television special on the preceding day which will include the 3-Point Challenge, Slam Dunk competition and skills challenge. The NBA All-Star Game begins at 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific) at New Orleans Arena. Rosebud artists Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples scored spots in the top 35 of Village Voice's annual "Pazz & Jop Poll" for LaVette’s Scene Of The Crime and Staples’ We'll Never Turn Back. The annual poll combines ballots from 577 critics’ Top 10 lists to acknowledge the best albums of 2007. Additional Rosebud artists whose CDs were honored were Bill Frisell (for his work with Floratone and with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano) Loudon Wainwright III, Meshell Ndegeocello, Ruthie Foster, Pieta Brown, Ann Savoy and the late Muddy Waters. Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino features Rosebud artists Allen Toussaint, Marcia Ball, Trombone Shorty and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. On this double-disc tribute, Allen Toussaint joins Paul McCartney on "I Want to Walk You Home” and Marcia Ball pairs up with Irma Thomas for their own rendition of "I Just Can't Get New Orleans Off My Mind". Marcia also sings backing vocals with Dr John on “Don’t Leave Me This Way”. Trombone Shorty also does double duty teaming up with the Rebirth Brass Band and Lenny Kravitz on "Whole Lotta Loving" and also joining with Ivan Nevilles Dumpstaphunk and B B King on “Goin Home” while The Dirty Dozen Brass Band is featured on "Every Night About This Time," along with Joss Stone and Buddy Guy. The album, set for a September 25 release, includes Domino hits such as "Blueberry Hill," "I’m Walkin’," and "Ain’t That a Shame”. Other artists on the album include Willie Nelson, Elton John, Robert Plant, and Neil Young. Proceeds are to be donated to New Orleans Public Schools and fund the reconstruction of Domino’s home, which was severely damaged from Hurricane Katrina.

The New Orleans Saints returned to the Superdome with a nationally televised grand celebration in which Rosebud artists Allen Toussaint and The Dirty Dozen's Gregory Davis were highly visible. Gregory lead a group of brass musicians to the foot of the stage, preceding a performance by U2 and Green Day. U2's Bono even name dropped Allen Toussaint in the lyric to "Beautiful Day". Later, the national anthem was performed by legendary New Orleans icons Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint.

Adding even more weight to the project is the fact that the political and social issues of that era remain relevant today and are emphasized by the fact that the CD is being released on August 29, the anniversary of the Katrina disaster. The Dozen themselves were uprooted by the hurricane and the loss they shared with much of the Gulf Coast community is given voice here by the band and special guests G. Allen Toussaint and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are among the all-star cast of the DVD "From The Big Apple to The Big Easy" which documents the benefit concert of the same name held in New York City in September 20, 2005. Allen Toussaint is featured performing solo on “Southern Nights” and with Cyndi Lauper on “Last Train/I Know (You Don’t Want Me No More)”. In addition he shares the stage with and provides accompaniment to Art Neville, Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Clarence “Frogman” Henry, Jimmy Buffett, Aaron Neville, Cyril Neville and Irma Thomas. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band are featured in performances with Elvis Costello and Dave Bartholomew, Diana Krall with Troy Andrews and Kermit Ruffins. Later, they join The Neville Brothers, The Meters and others in a show closing performance of “When the Saints Go Marching In”. Charlie Musselwhite also performed with Tom Waits at Radio City Music Hall the same evening in a simultaneous show benefiting the same cause. The live concerts raised nearly 9 million dollars for hurricane relief efforts and 100% of the proceeds from this DVD will go toward continuing those efforts.

Two Rosebud artists joined all-star line-ups to help raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina in the New York benefit concerts dubbed "The Big Apple to The Big Easy." The Dirty Dozen Brass Band was featured in the fundraiser at Madison Square Garden performing with Elvis Costello, Diana Krall and Dave Bartholomew. They also joined Aaron Neville and a score of other New Orleans performers for the finale of "When the Saints Go Marching In." Charlie Musselwhite lent his support by performing with Tom Waits in a simultaneous benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall. Other performers on the two shows included Simon and Garfunkel, John Fogerty, Elton John, Dave Matthews, Joss Stone, Jimmy Buffet and Lenny Kravitz.

For the 10th time in the 18 year history of Gambit Weekly's Big Easy Entertainment Awards, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet won the Best Cajun Band Category. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band also took home honors, winning Best Brass Band once again. The Big Easy Awards honor the best of what New Orleans has to offer in Music and Theater. Winners and honorees were feted in New Orleans at The Municipal Auditorium on April 18, 2005.

Rosebud artists have once again scored big in the just announced Grammy nominations as they have been honored directly, or as participants in 8 nods spread over the Blues, Gospel, Folk and Alternative categories. The Blind Boys of Alabama follow their back-to-back-to-back Grammy wins with shared nominations for both Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album for their collaboration with Ben Harper on There Will Be a Light and for Best Gospel Performance for the title track from that album. Charlie Musselwhite scored his 7th Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album with Sanctuary. Beausoleil’s Gitane Cajun garnered their 10th Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Folk Album. Mavis Staples makes an appearance in all three genres. She received a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance for her collaboration with Dr. John on the song "Lay My Burden Down," (which also features The Dirty Dozen Brass Band) from Dr. John’s "N’awlinz Dis Dat Or D’udda," additionally nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Mavis is also the featured artist performing "Hard Times Come Again No More" from the album Beautiful Dreamer - The Songs of Stephen Foster which has been nominated for Best Traditional Folk Album. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band make a guest appearance on Dave Matthews' solo debut "Some Devil" in stores September 23. The Dozen recorded the track "Dodo" with Dave and producer, Steve Harris, which is the opening track on the album. Other guest artists on the record include Trey Anastasio, Tim Reynolds, and The Seattle Symphony. Look for the Dozen on tour throughout 2003 including two Halloween shows with friends Widespread Panic at NYC's Madison Square Garden.

The show will take viewers on a musical journey through Louisiana, exploring its cultural landscape through performance and art. All three Rosebud artists (along with six others) recently played New Orleans during the 2003 Jazz & Heritage Festival to great response. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band also performed their own show on all 11 nights of the festival at Twiropa, in the New Orleans warehouse district, with special guests including members of Soulive, Los Lobos and Robert Walter's 20th Congress. Three of those shows were taped for an upcoming live CD.

BeauSoleil Avec Michael Doucet took the honors as Best Cajun Cajun Band - an honor that is bestowed upon them basically every year. If you want to see the Best Cajun Band there is - it's BeauSoleil. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band scored 2 wins including Best Brass Band. The city is known for it's brass bands but The Dozen is the best, and it was their innovative work that revitalized the genre. The Dozen also collected the award for Best Brass Album by a Louisiana Artist for their Medicated Magic CD which features Norah Jones, John Bell of Widespread Panic, Robert Randolph, Dr. John and DJ Logic. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will lend their distinctive sound to superstar chef Emeril Lagasse’s program on TV’s Food Network on October 2, 8PM/11PM. This is a part of 7-day series "Emeril Salutes America", during which Emeril visits 7 major cities to perform live shows. The Dirty Dozen will add their special flavor to New Orleans recipes such as "Fried Seafood Platter" and "Pecan Bread Pudding".

The Dirty Dozen will appear on Conan O’Brien on May 7 with Dr. John reprising his guest artist role, joining The Dozen on the telecast as he did on the band’s new CD, Medicated Magic. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band's Medicated Magic CD is due out on Ropeadope Records on April 23. The CD features guest artists Dr. John, Widespread Panic, Olu Dara, Robert Randolph, Nora Jones, and DJ Logic. The project was produced by Craig Street who has worked with Lucinda Williams, Cassandra Wilson, Madonna, Joe Henry and more. Watch for The Dozen on tour in the meantime.

The Robert Cray Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Davíd Garza, and Zap Mama have had to revise their schedules following the cancellation of the Heineken Beat festival originally scheduled for May 14 - 16 in Beijing's Ritan Park. Given the proximity of the venue to the US embassy where demonstrations were taking place and the inability to guarantee the safety of both the performers and attendees, the promoter decided to postpone the event. The Robert Cray Band will resume theirworldwide tour beginning May 26 in Paris. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will tour most of the summer with Widespread Panic.

The Robert Cary Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Zap Mama and Davíd Garza will be featured in a historic, first of it's kind outdoor festival at Ritan Park in Beijing, China May 14, 15 and 16. This marks the first performances in China for each of the artists who will be joined on the bill by other artists from China and Europe for the rare event.

The Dirty Dozen stopped at New York City's Irving Plaza on Saturday August 24 to play on a sold out show with John Hammond and G. Love & Special Sauce. The Black Crowes joined the Dirty Dozen backstage, and leaderChris Robinson joined the band on stage in a lively rendition of "The Nighttime is the Right Time".


New Orleans' Mayor Morial Declares August 2 - The Dirty Dozen Day

Just back from a brief European tour, The Dirty Dozen will spend the rest of the year touring the US in support of their new Mammoth Records release, Ears To The Wall. The tour kicks off in style - Mayor Marc H. Morial has declared August 2 The Dirty Dozen Day in New Orleans. The group will start the day with an appearance on Morning Show, on New Orleans' CBS affiliate WWL followed by an instore appearance at Tower Records and capped by a headlining date at the legendary Tipitina's club.

The new CD is currently #3 on CMJ's Jazz chart. Members of The Dozen are also heard on the new Black Crowes record, Three Snakes And One Charm and their song, "My Feet Can't Fail Me Now" was recently featured in the Steve Martin movie, Sgt. Bilko.

The Dirty Dozen will tour America throughout the year, introducing their new lineup and name along with the new record.

The Robert Cray Band's "Well I Lied" appears in the movie and soundtrack CD for the upcoming Truth About Cats and Dogs while The Dirty Dozen's "Feets Can't Fail Me Now" appears in Sargeant Bilco due later this month. The Dozen's new Mammoth CD is due for release in June and the group has also recorded a number of tracks with The Black Crowes for their upcoming CD.
